Scoping the Chinese American Librarians Association Services with a National Survey
Title
Scoping the Chinese American Librarians Association Services with a National Survey
Description
To make the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) a stronger organization and to serve its members more efficiently and effectively, CALA’s Assessment and Evaluation Committee designed an online survey and distributed it to all members through CALA’s listserv and its website. 30 survey questions, in six categories, corresponded to the six areas of CALA’s 2020 Strategic Plan.
The committee collected survey results and analyzed them using multiple methods. For the questions that could be quantified, the committee sorted the data, manipulated them in Excel, and used graphic images to demonstrate the results in a visual way. For questions that could not be quantified, they were summarized in a narrative way. Finally, the committee will send a comprehensive report with its conclusions, as well as the raw data, to the CALA Board.
The survey data and conclusions will assist the Board in gauging the level of CALA members’ awareness, perception, and usage of the association’s policies and services and therefore better understand its members’ level of satisfaction with the services provided by CALA. The findings of the survey can also be used as an important reference for the association to further develop its strategic plans and long-term goals, such as launching innovative and quality programs and services, using cutting-edge technologies to recruit and engage CALA members, creating professional development networking platforms, and promoting leadership training and services.
This poster shares the interpretation and findings of this survey, increasing the awareness of issues, difficulties, and challenges with respect to organizational development. The results can be applied to other library organizations with similar challenges.
