The Library Trends is published quarterly for the iSchool by The Johns Hopkins University Press. Each issue explores critical trends in professional librarianship and includes practical applications, thorough analyses, and literature reviews. In the era of big data, the development of Digital Humanities (DH) is driving the humanities and social sciences research into a new data-driven research model, which provides new research paths and methods for humanities research. In the past decade, digital humanities has emerged in China. Practitioners and researchers in academic libraries, public libraries, library schools, and social science and humanities schools have actively participated in projects and research in digital humanities.
During the process of developing this special issue, we worked with scholars and researchers from 11 universities in China and received 16 papers. These researches provide an overview, case studies, highlights of projects of China’s digital humanities practice and research development from a comprehensive perspective. The researches analyze the current concrete practice of digital humanities in China through investigations of research institutions, research projects, research platforms, and well-known scholars. Topics cover digital academic competence, memory research, artificial intelligence, data repository, GIS, and DH cyberinfrastructure etc.
This special issue will serve as a reference for understanding the practice and research status of digital humanities in China. It will further support more collaboration from various fields for the development of digital humanities in China.
