OCUL Collaborative Futures Project

Title

OCUL Collaborative Futures Project

Description

Ontario university libraries in Canada have a long history of collaboration and cooperation to address challenges libraries have been facing together to meet users’ needs. In 2013, a provincial wide discussion was initiated by a group of information technology professionals at libraries in response to the emergence of the cloud computing based library management system. The Collaborative Futures (CF) project was established following that. After several years’ investigation and preparation, fourteen universities jointly selected Alma and Primo as their shared library management system and discovery interface in 2018. In late 2019 and early 2020, the fourteen university libraries migrated from various legacy systems to this new shared system successfully. Currently the CF consortium is working on fulfillment network, license management, collaborative cataloguing and many other projects aiming for deeper collaboration cross the province and leverage the resources and services to library users. the This poster will illustrate the entire process of this project, including the initiation, feasibility study, system requirement development, procurement and implementation. The organization and governance structure of the CF consortium will be included. Outcomes, challenges and future opportunities will be discussed as well. This project has implications to large scale library collaboration and the future of library systems and services.
