Abstract

"Most library video tutorials use a single-voice, show-and-tell format to demonstrate steps efficiently. While effective for quick instruction, this approach often limits opportunities for engagement, clarification, and support for diverse learners. At the same time, many libraries face budget constraints and limited staff capacity. Can instructional videos be improved without significantly increasing production demands?

This lightning talk focuses on one simple shift: adding a second voice. Through brief examples, it shows how a two-voice design can enhance clarity, model user thinking, and create natural moments for explanation and emphasis. Rather than adding complexity, this approach relies on small scripting adjustments that can be applied to existing tutorials.

With the support of AI-powered voice tools, multi-voice and multilingual narration is now more feasible for small teams. By rethinking narration as part of instructional design, libraries can improve accessibility, engagement, and overall video effectiveness without significantly increasing workload.
