Collaboration, communication, and the cataloger: measuring the impact of enhanced cataloging on discoverability of library resources

Title

Collaboration, communication, and the cataloger: measuring the impact of enhanced cataloging on discoverability of library resources

Description

This presentation examined the journey of librarians from different types and sizes of institutions within the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) who collaborated to investigate how reference and instruction librarians and staff perceive the value of enhanced cataloging upon discoverability of resources. In spite of a global pandemic and state-wide system migration, this group became a committed team, conducting collaborative research over two years. Survey results affirmed that the successful description and discovery of resources is dependent upon strong communication and collaboration between technical services and public services colleagues. Learn how the group formed, normed, stormed, and transformed to produce new research that provides a foundation for the investigation of connecting the work of catalogers to student success.
