Developing the International Library Community in the Digital Age through Collaboration and Partnership
Title
Developing the International Library Community in the Digital Age through Collaboration and Partnership
Description
In collaboration and partnership with the iSchool in Illinois, academic libraries, public libraries, and state libraries across the U.S. and China, Chinese Librarians Scholarly Exchange Program (CLSEP) has trained 411 Chinese librarians from 142 institutions all over China. Since 2008, the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) Visiting Scholars Program has received 143 Chinese scholars (including faculty, graduate students, and librarians) in the field of library and information science from 77 institutions. The CLSEP themes are designed based on global trends relevant to libraries and librarianship, encompassing digital libraries, digital scholarship, innovative services, emerging technology, digital resources, and more. Both programs have successfully established a strong bridge for participants and scholars, providing them with opportunities to interact with librarians, faculty, and students to exchange ideas, approaches, and experiences in innovative services. The participants and scholars have made impressive contributions in promoting scholarly exchange, enhancing international communication, and building an international library community in the digital age. It is hoped that the stories and experiences shared here will prove useful and insightful for future practices.
