Cultural Connections: Training Approaches for Incoming and Arriving International Students
Title
Cultural Connections: Training Approaches for Incoming and Arriving International Students
Description
The international student population defined as “a heterogeneous group of students whose common element is their status as well [as] their intention of attaining academic excellence in a country other than their home country” (Nwokedi, 2020), According to Statistics Canada, international students are increasing rapidly in Canadian universities. The number of international students enrolled in Canadian postsecondary institutions has been on the rise for two decades, with international student numbers increasing at a higher rate than those of Canadian students. Ensuring international student’s smooth transition to the university community and successfully attaining academic achievement requires guidance before school begins. University of Windsor and Dominican University offer different services for incoming and arriving international students such as “three ways training” for incoming and arriving international students, such as Pre-departure, Suitcase to Backpack, and English Language Improvement Program (ELIP).
