An Overview of a Cataloging Librarian's Remote Work during the Pandemic
Title
An Overview of a Cataloging Librarian's Remote Work during the Pandemic
Description
Since the pandemic broke out in March 2020, librarians all over the country started to work remotely from home. The virtual work poses a challenge for everyone especially for cataloging librarians who are accustomed to working with physical materials on site. Unable to return to the library and work with physical materials, the cataloging librarian needs to come up with project ideas that are constructive and meaningful. The presentation will provide an overview of a cataloging librarian’s work in the past year from an academic institution, including the projects that she has worked on and collaborated with her colleagues. These projects include updating Library of Congress Name Authority Records for her institution’s schools and departments, reviewing the new RDA toolkit learning webinars, creating Alma normalization rules to upgrade AACR2 records to RDA in the library catalog, participated in the OCLC reclamation project and the PCC Wikidata project. Through sharing her work, the cataloging librarian hopes to bring project ideas to others as the pandemic has created new work patterns for librarians and these project ideas can be helpful for people both in the short and long term in the future.
