Title
AI-Powered Chat Service for Teaching and Learning
Subject
Description
This poster will present our interdisciplinary initiative to develop a new 24/7 chat service using a chatbot model in an academic library. The primary goal of this chatbot service is to help students and faculty find open textbooks across various platforms, significantly improving their experience in discovering and accessing open educational materials (OER) at a higher education institution. The new chat service will be integrated into the library website to provide additional support for teaching, learning, and research. This poster will cover the initial brainstorming process, innovative funding strategies, and collaboration between institutions as well as across disciplines. It will highlight the successful development of the chatbot, leveraging emerging technologies such as natural language processing, conversational flow design, text mining, large language models (LLMs), and human-machine interaction. It will also share lessons learned and outline the project’s roadmap for the next twelve months. Key takeaways include innovatively exploring a chatbot model for developing a new library chat service, gaining insights from experimenting with cutting-edge technologies to enhance resource discovery, and fostering interdisciplinary research and collaboration to better support library users.
