Patterns and Plurality: Analyzing Modes of Student Wellbeing Through Library Space Utilization

Title

Patterns and Plurality: Analyzing Modes of Student Wellbeing Through Library Space Utilization

Description

The university library is traditionally seen as a place solely for research assistance and study space. While these services are necessary, the modern university library can provide more pathways for student success beyond the scope of academia. Considering the concept of libraries as the essential “third space” for college students, it is important that academic librarians focus on enhancing student wellbeing among the populations we serve. This poster will achieve this through analyzing the spatial interactions of students at the John C. Hitt Library at the University of Central Florida and connecting these interactions to different contexts of student wellbeing. By examining student utilization of library spaces, academic librarians will be able to leverage the plurality of the campus library’s function to address the varied contexts of students’ needs. Ultimately, this poster will showcase observations of various student interpretations of library spaces and encourage innovative strategies toward student wellbeing among the university community.
