Abstract
In the US, there is a long-standing trust and collaborative relationship between patron and library. However, research shows that the librarians often do not align their perceptions about service values well with the patron's experience and perception. The recent expansion of GenAI has added a new piece of consideration. This webinar explores how patrons perceive the library and library service from a psychological dimension, particularly in relation to GenAI tools. Our project shows that research consultations with librarians can foster confidence, provide emotional support and sense of clarity. Moving beyond meeting the needs of information services, the patrons appreciate the connections offered by the library services–they view librarians both as a resource connector, and as a supporter from the academic community. In particular, we will share the observations from the patron that might inform future library service design and professional development.
