Description
The Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign provides international outreach services to firefighters and librarians around the world. These services include assistance with training, intercultural communication, and bilingual service. The library has developed strong partnerships with firefighters in China, South Korea, and Brazil to assist with their training in the United States. This includes providing support for language barriers, cultural differences, and other challenges that may arise during their training. The IFSI Library provides assistance to Chinese librarians and students through a summer scholarly exchange program, visiting scholar program, and archives internship program. The IFSI Library’s international outreach initiatives are an essential component of its mission to support and advance the fields of Library and Information Science, the Fire Service, and Emergency Management. Through its partnerships and international programs, the IFSI Library provides valuable opportunities for international users in professional development, intercultural communication, and collaboration.
